Ryman Lineage

My father, Donald and his fraternal twin, Ronald (later changed to Kermit), were adopted as infants in 1930 in New York by our dear grandparents, Kathryn Floetke and Mahlon Ryman. Kathryn's family immigrated to the United States from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Mahlon was born in Phillipsburg, PA in 1882 and his ancestors were firmly rooted in Pennsylvania prior to 1770. The Ryman (adopted) lineage is: Mahlon Ryman b. 1882 > Miles Green Ryman b. 1852 in Centre Co., PA > Jacob S. Ryman b. 1821 in Centre Co., PA > David Ryman b. 1779 in Montgomery Co., PA > Johannes Ludwig Reimann (Ryman) b. about 1726 in Germany.

I'd be happy to exchange information with any other researchers. Please e-mail me at: dianaryman@yahoo.com.

Please be sure to see the post at "Bliss Roots" on this blog to see the blood line of Donald - tracing back through his birth mother, Gladys Ruth Bliss (married Waite).

Strachan Heritage

My mother, Patricia Strachan (wife of Donald Ryman) was born 1931 in DuBois, Clearfield Co., PA and was the only child of Robert Henry Strachan b. 1905 in Rossiter, Indiana Co., PA and Mildred Irvin born 1908 in Big Run, Jefferson Co., PA. Robert H. was the son of Robert Robertson Strachan born 1883 in Dunfermline, Scotland and Effie Maude Henry, born 1881 in Canoe Twp., Indiana, PA. Robert R. was the son of David Strachan, born 1860 in Oakley, Fife Co., Scotland and Mary Robertson born 1857 in Halbeath, Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland. David was the son of William Strachan (reportedly a Queen's Guard) who was born about 1818 in Dunfermline, Scotland. Most of the Strachan's were miners, both in Scotland and the United States.

I have many pictures of this line of my family, including some mining photos from the Rossiter, PA mines where Robert R. Strachan was the mine foreman. I have most of the documentation for this line running back to Scotland and would be interested in exchanging info with another researcher of this line. Please e-mail me at: dianaryman@yahoo.com

Irvin Ancestry

My maternal grandmother, Mildred Elizabeth Irvin, was born in 1908 in Big Run, Jefferson Co., PA and was married in 1927 to Robert Henry Strachan (son of Robert R. Strachan and Effie M. Henry). Mildred's parents were: James Burton Irvin b. 1874 in Canton, Bradford Co., PA and Carrie Minerva Mitchell b. 1884 in Burnside Twp., Clearfield Co., PA. James, also known as J.B. was the son of Samuel Irvin b. 1831 in Schuylkill Co., PA and Mary M. Wright b. 1843 in NY. Samuel's parents were Benjamin Irvin b. 1803 in Lehigh Co., PA and Prudence Dunbar, b. 1815 in PA. Benjamin was the son of David Irvin, b. abt. 1774 in N. Ireland and Anna Maria Sechler b. 1769 in Northampton Co., PA.

I have done a lot of research on this line of our family and have much documentation and pictures. I also have information on the Sechlers who I haven't written about here on this blog. Two "brick walls" I'd like to know more about are: 1) Where did David Irvin wind up after leaving his pregnant wife in LeHigh Co., PA and where did he come from originally - his ancestry, etc. and 2) I'd love to know more about Prudence Dunbar's parents, and heritage. I have no clues for her other than the fact that she was in the Lehigh Co., PA area when she married Benjamin Irvin.

If you have information on this line, I'd be happy to exchange with you. Please contact me at: dianaryman@yahoo.com.

Mitchell Roots

Carrie Minerva Mitchell, wife of J.B. Irvin and born ______ was one of 13 children born to John Camden Mitchell b. 1842 in Burnside Twp., Clearfield Co., PA and Sarah Elizabeth McCardell, b. 1844 in PA. John was the son of Joseph Mitchell b. 1809 in Burnside Twp., PA and Mary Fulmer b. 1815 in PA. Joseph was the son of David Mitchell, Sr. born circa 1785.

Effie Maude Henry (wife of Robert Robertson Strachan) was born 1881 in Canoe Twp., Indiana Co., PA to parents, Adam Henry, b. 1846 in Canoe Ridge, Indiana Co., PA and Margaret Martin, b. 1847 in the same location. Adam was the son of Simon C. Henry b. 1820 and Rachel Tiger b. 1826.

I have quite a bit of information on this family line back through Effie's ancestry (Martin) through the Revolutionary War and to Ireland. I also have pictures and know all the descendents of Effie and Robert R. Strachan. Effie was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. If you'd like to exchange information, please e-mail me at: dianaryman@yahoo.com.

William was the son of Hugh Knox Martin b. 1768 and Jane Campbell b. 1771. Hugh Knox Martin was the son of Hugh Martin (Captain - Revolutionary War) who was born 1738 and Jane Knox.

Josiah was the son of Caleb Wright, Jr. (Revolutionary War) born about 1746 in Northfield, Franklin Co., MA and Elizabeth Stillman born 1746 in Wethersfield, Hardford Co., CT. Ebenezer was the son of Samuel Wright born 1632 in the same place and Elizabeth Burt b. 1638 in Harberton, Devonshire, England. Samuel Wright was the son of Samuel Wright (Deacon) who was born about 1602 in London, Middlesex, England and Margaret (surname unknown) who was born about 1605 in Northampton, MA.

Samuel (Deacon) Wright was the son of Nathaniel Wright who was born in 1581 in Wrightbridge, Essex, England and Lydia James who was born 1592 in Durham, England. Nathaniel Wright was the son of John Wright, born 1544 in Wrightsbridge, Essex, England and Bennet Green born 1554 in London, England. John Wright was the son of John Wright (Sr.) b. 1517 in Kelvesdon, Essex, England and Alice Rucke b. 1520, Wrightsbridge, Essex, England.

I can't take credit for all this wonderful research. I got most of the information from about the late 1700's back from the genealogy done by a gentleman with the LDS church. But I'll happily share anything I have with you and know all the descendents from Solomon through the present day.

I also have a good number of photographs as well. Please e-mail me at: dianaryman@yahoo.com.

Tiger (Tyger) Heritage

Rachel Tiger (wife of Simon Henry) was born 1826 and was the child of Adam David Tyger b. 1803 in Tewksbury Twp., Hunterdon Co., NJ and Mary Philhower, b. 1803 same location. Adam was the child of Abraham Tyger b. 1775, same place, and Anna Teates b. 1771 in Oldwick, NJ. Abraham was the child of Jacob Tyger who was born in 1736 in Germany and Anna Marie.

This is a line I've only done some research on so far, but want to learn more including any info on the service in the Revolutionary War given by Jacob Tyger. I have a VERY old picture of John McDowell (b. 1793) when he looks to be in about his 40's or so. Hand colored. And also a picture of the home of William McDowell in Mifflin Co., PA. I'd be happy to exchange copies of the pictures or other information with someone also researching this line. I know all of John's (younger) descendents so can help out there as well. Please e-mail me at dianaryman@yahoo.com.

Glass Heritage

Nancy Glass (wife of John Beatty) was born 1767 in Siglerville, Mifflin Co., PA and was a child of James Glass b. 1730 Donegal, Ireland and Jane Gallagher of Ireland.
